We recently ran a photo competition on the blog’s Facebook’s page. All you had to do to win an AFA graded loose Luke Bespin figure was post a photo on the page of a vintage figure in front of a well-known monument/place.
It didn’t have to be a world famous place, as long as was well known in your city, town, village, wherever! My wife chose the winning photo.
We had some great entries, from all over Europe, Tunisia, China, North America and even Australia. These included Matthieu’s transition Leia Hoth in front of the Eiffel Tower (you can see by the look on her face that she’d prefer to be in Marseille), Craig’s Chewie rampaging through Venice, James’ adorable son with his Cantina alien crew in the Australian bush (made me miss home!), Mete’s Blue Star standing guard and straddling the Asian/European divide on the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Marco’s globetrotting Tiggy in China (check this link for more on Tiggy – http://www.imperialgunneryforum.com/t4218-tiggy-the-tig-travelling-imperial-gunner) and several shots of Axel’s figures in Tunisia.
A lot these collectors aleady have amazing collections so it was nice to see them enter just for the fun of it. If anyone would like me to remove their photo from this article, please let me know!
While we are only able to give out one prize, there were two honourable mentions (well one was quite dishonourable actually).
Alexander’s secretion of poor old suffering Tiggy into his nether regions was definitely the most original and daring. While I thought it should have been disqualified as the photo was not technically of a figure in front of a monument/place, my wife thought it was hilarious so, as usual, she vetoed me. I swear I’m not jealous that she saved the photo to her phone. Okay, okay he does have perfectly sculpted buttocks but he could use a few more bicep curls.
Some of you might want to close your eyes right about….. NOW!
There goes the blog’s PG rating….
The choice between second and first place was incredibly difficult and my wife took more than a day to deliberate on it. I wish I had two prizes in this situation….Second place went to Kevyn and his photo of Han on his Tauntaun in front of L’Esplanade Louis Riel in Winnipeg (Hoth) Canada. Kevyn I’m sorry you missed out but thank you for sharing this wonderful photo with us.
AND THE WINNER IS…………………Axel and his amazing snap of Luke, C3PO and R2D2 at the Lars Homestead (interior) in Tunisia. My wife loved the colours, the light and the tie-dye walls and thought the characters looked life-like, like a scene from the movie itself. Now she is Tunisian so she might be perceived a biased but ask yourself – could you say no to this photo?
Thanks again to everyone who got involved. There will be more competitions in the future so there’s always next time!
I have to agree, with mine Tiggy isn’t technically in front of a monument…. he’s jammed inside a monument!!!! 🙂
My bad
Cheers Bobby and cobgrats to tge Winner!
Thanks Christian for organizing this fun competition.
Congrats to Axel for his nice Tatooine picture and LOL about Alex’ monumental picture. 🙂
Cheers
